piegan warrior
2008, oil, 46"h x 28"w
Beyond the distinctive dress and the look of steadfast assurance, the image of a Blackfoot warrior is all about the artistic principles inherent in the creation of the painting. Zhuo's composition relies upon corresponding shapes and movements for balance and interest. The pose of the figure implies action. The tree trunks correspond to the limbs of the figure, as does the bow with the thin tree branch above it.
In the lower portion, lovely high-key summer greens transition upward into darker more intense colors. This contrasting interplay of value ad color helps to dynamically define the focal point of the ma's torso and head, producing a powerful and compelling work of art.
