The war shield was an important basic protection tool for the Indian tribes. For hundreds of years, in their arduous life, besides the shield there wasn’t much they may use for avoid to be harm. A good war shield became a life long ambition.
In this painting, a Crow man cached a white buffalo, the first thing to do was use the sacred skin to make a war shield. In the final stage of the ceremony , the shield holding up to the sun, they prey for the ultimate power.
